How the date difference is counted
The calculation follows the Gregorian calendar, including leap years and each month's actual length.
days between = absolute difference in calendar days; inclusive count = days between + 1
- Choose a start and end date. The start date opens at your local date.
- Days between dates counts the calendar-day gap. Two identical dates have a gap of zero.
- Include end date adds one day, counting both dates. Two identical dates then count as one day.
- Divide the total by seven for complete weeks and remaining days.
Worked example — 22 October to 1 November 2026 is 10 days, or 1 week and 3 days. Including the end date gives 11 days.

Things to consider
- For hotel stays, the gap between check-in and check-out usually matches the number of nights.
- For an event covering both dates, choose Include end date.
- Legal and payment deadlines may follow different counting rules. Check the applicable terms.
- This counts all calendar days, not just working days.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator include the end date?
Not by default. Choose Include end date to add one day and count both the first and last date.
Does it count weekends and holidays?
Yes. Every calendar day counts. This is not a working-day calculator.
Are leap years included?
Yes. February 29 counts in leap years. For example, 28 February to 1 March 2024 is two days.
What if the end date is earlier than the start date?
The calculator shows a positive duration and labels the end date as before the start. You do not need to swap the dates.
Why are there no hours or minutes?
Dates alone do not specify a time or time zone. Daylight-saving changes can make a local day shorter or longer than 24 hours, so calendar days are not an exact elapsed-hour count.
