How it works
Tipping customs vary widely by country and venue. In some places service is included or tipping is uncommon; in others it is expected. Check local norms and whether a service charge is already on the bill.
Tip = tip base × tip % ÷ 100; total = bill + tip. Tip base = bill − excluded tax or service charge.
- Enter the bill in your currency.
- Choose a percentage or a custom tip amount.
- Enter the number of people sharing.
- Optionally exclude included tax or service charges.
- Choose rounding and read the exact payable shares.
Worked example: 64.50 at 18% gives a tip of 11.61 and a total of 76.11. Split between 3 people, each pays 25.37, including 3.87 in tip.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a tip?
Multiply the amount you want to tip on by the percentage, then divide by 100. For example, 50 at 10% gives a tip of 5 and a total of 55. These percentages are examples, not local tipping rules.
How do I split a bill with a tip?
Add the tip to the bill and divide by the number of people. If cents do not divide evenly, this calculator allocates the extra cents to the last shares shown. For 100 between 3 people with no tip, 2 people pay 33.33 and 1 person pays 33.34.
Should I tip on tax or a service charge?
Customs and venue policies differ. Check local norms and the bill. To tip on the amount before an included charge, choose Yes and enter that portion. For a bill of 110 including 10 in tax, a 20% tip on 100 is 20, giving a total of 130. A custom tip amount is not changed by this option.
What does rounding do to the tip percentage?
Rounding up increases the tip, not the original bill. Each share up makes every payable share a whole currency unit. Total up makes only the combined total a whole unit. A bill of 47 at 15% totals 54.05; rounding the total to 55 makes the tip 8 and the effective rate 17.02%. If the tip base is zero and the tip is positive, the rate is undefined.
What is the difference between a tip and a service charge?
A tip is an extra amount you choose. A service charge is an amount added by the venue, sometimes as part of its pricing or policy. Who receives it and whether another tip is expected vary by venue and local rules. Check before adding more.
